I can't remember many chances to go and see a breeding pair of Black-necked Grebes with young over the years, so when the RSPB at Ryemeads let all birders and the general public know that everyone from a safe distance can view these stunning birds from the hide without disturbing them, it was game on. which worked out perfectly for myself and Russ after photographing the Red Kites on Friday. We both had previously been the week before but this time we had much better views. Not always close to the hide but worth waiting for when they did!

Just a few miles off the M40 near Oxford Russ and I enjoyed the sometimes acrobatic Red Kites and as I enjoy the challenge of flight photography it was a superb way to spend a morning. With 35 Red Kites up in the air we were spoilt for choice. Below are just five images from hundreds taken from the session. I did get a bit trigger happy to be honest, just like when I visited the site back in 2010.
